Abstract

This thesis analyzes the stability of the Icelandic electrical power system under projected future load growth. As electricity demand in Iceland continues to increase, maintaining system stability becomes a critical challenge for transmission system planning and operation. A model of the Icelandic power grid was developed using pandapower, a python-based power system analysis tool and was used to simulate grid behavior under gradually increasing load and generation levels. Load and generation were increased to reflect long-term demand growth scenarios from 2025 and 2050. The simulations focus on assessing system stability and potential operational constraints under future conditions. The results provide insight into operational strength of the Icelandic power system and highlight areas where reinforcement or operational measures may be required to ensure reliable system performance in the coming decades.
