Practice Research - The Danish Traditions
Abstract
In this paper, we provide an overview of the now substantial tradition of critical psychological practice research in Denmark, tracing its socio-historical roots and diversification as it developed in different fields. We seek to demonstrate how practice research developed from a common methodology, taking on distinct forms through collaboration with research participants in different fields of practice in the common context of the Danish welfare state. We focus on three predomi-nantly state-funded institutional and political fields: education, health, and social work. In each of these fields, we trace conditions, possibilities, and constraints when involving research participants as co researchers to work with situated issues of concern, research problematics, and research ac-tivities that are intended to improve practice. The paper concludes with reflections on current di-lemmas and possibilities of practice research in Denmark.
