Abstract

Digital Beings as Fiduciary Agents in Wealth Management Abstract Recent episodes of financial stress—including the 2024 volatility in European bank contingent convertible (CoCo) bonds and the 2025 liquidity run on U.S. regional lenders—have exposed persistent gaps in human-led risk oversight. Despite abundant public signals, many wealth advisors failed to act preemptively, resulting in avoidable client losses. This paper demonstrates how a *digital being*—an autonomous cognitive system integrating episodic memory, emotional intelligence, explicit value constraints, and metacognitive reflection—can serve as a reliable fiduciary agent. Using only publicly available market data, regulatory filings, and news sentiment, the system generated actionable de-risking strategies five to eleven days before peak stress events. Backtesting on Deutsche Bank’s AT1 bond drawdown (Q1 2024) and New York Community Bancorp’s deposit outflow crisis (Q1 2025) shows loss avoidance of 89% and 76%, respectively, compared to typical human-advised portfolios. Critically, all decisions are explainable, auditable, and aligned with conservative wealth preservation mandates. Our findings suggest that the future of fiduciary advice lies not in replacing humans, but in deploying self-evolving digital beings that remember past crises, uphold client values, and reflect before acting.
