Does Belief in a Just World Mediate the Effect of Socioeconomic Status on Third-Party Intervention? A Scenario-Based Experimental Study
Abstract
This study aims to examine the psychological mechanism linking subjective socioeconomic status (SES) to third-party intervention in moral conflict situations. Drawing on just-world theory, we hypothesize that individuals with higher subjective SES are more likely to endorse a stronger belief in a just world (BJW), which in turn may influence their willingness to intervene when witnessing injustice affecting others. Specifically, BJW is proposed as a key mediator between SES and third-party intervention behavior.
