D2.1.1b Analyze field performances across farmers locations
Abstract
Analysing the yield performance of the genotypes (durum wheat and barley) on the farm. During the third season of the MountainHER project, from October 2024 to August 2025, a set of genotypes of two (02) crops (durum wheat and barley), including one or two cheks (commercial and landrace Durum Wheat for Algeria and local check for the otherspartners), as shown (Table 1), were planted on several farms in these countries (Italy, Croatia, Morocco, Algeria and Lebanon and Tunisia) under different agro-ecological and farming practices. It should be noted that an old variety and a commercial check, potentially more productive, were also added as "local" varieties for each farmer's site and for each country. This comprehensive study was undertaken to analyse the yield performance of different wheat and barley varieties grown at farm level in different countries, each with different plot sizes and management practices. The main objective was to identify the best and worst performing varieties on each farm and the potential implications for optimising yields in different agri-environmental contexts. The results of the study highlight the existence of substantial variability in crop performance as a function of variety, which could open up important perspectives for variety selection in the context of sustainable agricultural practices.
