Abstract

Thoracic radiotherapy can cause chronic inflammation in healthy heart and lung tissue that may result in cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Therefore, the potential of the anti-inflammatory substance cannabidiol (CBD) to attenuate the normal tissue toxicity of radiotherapy was investigated. A CBD treatment started with sufficient leadup to irradiation showed anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects that support the use of CBD as a radioprotective agent in radiotherapy.
