Abstract

Microbial identification is essential in clinics and food surveillance. This thesis evaluates the potential of bottom-up proteomics for bacterial identification on a sub-species level. A robust sample preparation workflow was combined with a simple, yet powerful algorithm. A 303-species large ground truth dataset demonstrates the excellent taxonomic resolution of this approach. The workflow was applied to food-derived and clinical isolates.
