Konfirmation som medialiserad religion : En kvalitativ analys om hur konfirmation presenteras via församlingars hemsidor i Uppsala stift.
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze how confirmation is presented on parish websites in Diocese of Uppsala in the Church of Sweden, based on mediatization theory. The purpose of the thesis is to gain new knowledge about how mediatization influences and transforms the digital information on parish websites. The questions used to achieve this purpose are: How is confirmation communicated on parish websites in the Diocese of Uppsala? In what ways is the communication affected by mediatized religion according to Stig Hjarvard? The material consists of text from eight parish websites in the Diocese of Uppsala that communicate information about confirmation. The method used is qualitative content analysis of the material to identify codes and themes for the results section. My analysis and analytical questions are based on Stig Hjarvard’s mediatization theory and the concept of mediatized religion. The conclusions of the thesis show that confirmation is mainly communicated as a combination of personal growth, community, and experiences, where existential questions and activities are central. The study also shows that communication is shaped by mediatized religion and media logic, religion is transformed when communicated through modern media. Finally, the study concludes that the influence of mediatization is not absolute, as some parishes use a clearly theological language when describing confirmation.
