Abstract

This record contains qualitative research materials supporting a study of security decision-making in the Domain Name System (DNS). Although DNS underpins nearly all Internet activity, DNS security mechanisms such as DNSSEC remain underdeployed despite decades of standardization. Prior work has measured deployment levels, but there is limited empirical understanding of the organizational and operational factors driving security decisions. The study is based on semi-structured interviews with 24 DNS resolver operators and security practitioners from 23 organizations, including service providers, enterprises, and government organizations across 14 countries. Materials include anonymized interview transcripts, qualitative coding files, codebooks, and synthesized thematic outputs used in the analysis. All materials are curated to support transparency and reproducibility while preserving participant confidentiality.
