Abstract

For Experiment 1, we selected recordings based on 4 aspects: (1) perceived gender: speakers should sound typically male or female; (2) perceived age: speakers should sound to be of the same age; (3) perceived accent: speakers should be perceived to be speaking with a "neutral" accent; (4) perceived variant: the phonetic variants used in our stimuli ([p] vs. [b] and [t] vs. [d]) should be perceived accurately.
