Abstract

REFLECTIVE MEMO: I understand narrative writing to be more laid back and informal than your average academic or research writing. This allows for the writer to express his/her voice and connect a lot more to the reader. With this in mind, we can recognize that there is more use for rhetorical devices in narrative writing. This includes ethos, logos, Kairos, and most importantly, pathos.Personal narratives give you a chance to connect with your reader by allowing them to emerge into your life through glimpses of emotional memories. In this narrative I became vulnerable and allowed for my audience to understand my psychological barriers in speaking another language. It was emotionally freeing, and I'm glad I had this opportunity.
