This essay is a response by Carlo DaVia and Greg Lynch—authors of the recently published book The Event of Meaning in Gadamer’s Hermeneutics (Routledge 2024)—to two commentators, Robert Dostal and Csaba Olay, presented as part of a book symposium at the 2025 annual conference of the North American Society for Philosophical Hermeneutics.
