Abstract
The paper presents a philosophical interpretation of artificial intelligence as an epistemic agent – a phenomenon that participates in the production, verification and transformation of knowledge. The ontological and epistemological dimensions of artificial intelligence agency are revealed, particularly its role as a structural condition of contemporary cognition. The main forms of epistemic enhancement – personalization, automation, and open access to knowledge are analyzed, showing how they reshape the boundaries of human cognitive autonomy. Attention is drawn to the ambivalence of artificial intelligence – the combination of cognitive expansion and the risk of reducing thinking to metric rationality. Special emphasis is placed on the educational effects of artificial intelligence implementation, issues of transparency, responsibility, and epistemic integrity. It is concluded that artificial intelligence should be regarded not as a substitute for the knowing subject but as a factor expanding the human cognitive horizon.
