Variations around the CoNiFeMnCr equimolar composition: high temperature properties of some HEAs or MEAs derived from the Cantor's alloy
Abstract
Cantor’s alloy: not suitable for service at high temperaturesFast creep deformation, and fast oxidation (not chromia-forming)First modification: decreasing Mn and increasing Cr lead to better HT behaviorsSecond modification: Mn removal leads to slower creep and oxidationThird modification: no Mn +Ti or +Ta lead to slower creep(but worse oxidation)Fourth modification: +C and +Ta or +Hf lead to similar effects as the 2nd + 3rd modificationsSignificant modifications (HEA becoming MPEA) are compulsory to use Cantor’s alloy at HT in oxidative and stress conditions; protect. coatings needed
