Implicit and explicit attitudes predicting selective news exposure using the Affect Misattribution Procedure (AMP) (Actitudes implícitas y explícitas en la exposición selectiva a noticias)
Abstract
Experimental study examining how implicit and explicit attitudes predict selective exposure to political news. Implicit attitudes were measured using the Affect Misattribution Procedure (AMP), while explicit attitudes were assessed through self-report scales. Participants completed a behavioral forced-choice news selection task and a pre–post intervention designed to reduce confirmation bias. Results evaluate the relative contribution of automatic (implicit) and controlled (explicit) processes in media choice behavior in a Spanish-speaking university sample from Colombia. The study contributes evidence on implicit cognition, selective exposure, and media psychology in non-English populations. Published open-access version.
