Abstract

Tool interfaces for Machine Tools are exposed to various load collectives and must still fulfill their purpose safely. In order to compare the variety of available tool interfaces, different methods have been developed and characteristic values defined, most of which have been applied at standstill only. In this thesis the influence of rotation on the static bending behavior is investigated first. Then the changes of the internal contact conditions at higher rotational speeds are investigated before the influence of the tool interface on the machining process is examined. In order to be able to investigate the bending behavior of tool interfaces under rotation, the established investigation methods have been developed further and a suitable test rig has been built. The first investigations show fundamental effects which lead to a significantly different behavior under rotation than at standstill. Based on these results, further comparative investigations of standardized tool interfaces and a monolithic maximal rigid tool interface provide an overview of the bending characteristics at different speeds. The loss of contact in the HSK-taper under high speeds has not been practically proven yet. To prove the loss of contact, a test tool was developed, which allows to detect the spill of a fluid when gaps in the taper contact occur. The simulations in combination with the results gained from tests with conventional machine spindles show the aerial lift-off in the taper contact, which motivates the subsequent discussion on the effects of these gaps on the functional safety of the machines. The final investigations allow a classification of the influence of the different tool interfaces on the overall machine stiffness using a simplified homologous model, which was used with measurement data from different machines. The tool deflection in milling processes illustrates this classification in a practical approach, which is supported by the investigations of the dynamic process stability with different tool interfaces.
