Numerical Simulation of Convective Heat Transfer in Gyroid Structures with Varying Porosity
Abstract
This study systematically investigated the heat transfer performance of gyroid structures with four different porosities (55%, 65%, 75%, and 85%) using conjugate heat transfer numerical simulations and elucidated the underlying heat transfer mechanisms. This research demonstrates that gyroid structures enhance heat exchange by disrupting airflow channels to intensify turbulence and effectively break down the thermal boundary layer near walls, thereby reducing thermal resistance. As porosity decreased, heat transfer efficiency from the heat source to the gyroid structure continually improved, accompanied by an increase in the convective heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number. However, the friction factor increased significantly. By employing the j/f factor to quantify and compare the comprehensive convective heat transfer performance across different porosities, this study revealed that gyroid structures with higher porosities and low Reynolds numbers offered superior overall convective heat transfer performance.
