Autoethnography of Human–AI Co-evolution through Dialogic Writing
Abstract
This project documents an ongoing single-case autoethnographic study of thought, emotion, and narrative transformation during mental health recovery, conducted through continuous dialogue with a generative AI system (ChatGPT). Rather than treating AI as a tool, this work positions it as an interactive agent that perturbs, mirrors, and reshapes self-understanding over time. Fragments of dialogic writing, reflective notes, and temporal observations— including periods of silence and non-writing—are preserved as primary research material. This repository serves as an open preprint and working archive for iterative research at the intersection of Human–Computer Interaction, narrative identity, and care-oriented AI practices. The project prioritizes process over outcome and does not aim for generalization, but for a detailed methodological account of AI-assisted narrative externalization. Selected narrative reflections from this project are published on Medium as part of the research process, serving as public-facing field notes.
