Sumac Kawsay’: A New Perspective
Abstract
The summer before my senior year of high school, I discovered the meaning of life high among the peaks of the Ecuadorian Andes. It was there that Mother Nature baptized me in the waterfalls of the Rio Pastaza, my innocence and wonderment at the beauty of the world washed away, carried swiftly by the cold, clear waters that run down to the mighty Amazon. The icy spray awakened me soaking my being to the soul… I was anointed a Global Citizen, inspired to study indigenous cultures of the world, socioeconomic impacts affecting developing countries, roots of injustice and to bring about positive change.
