Cal Poly Needs More Composting

REFLECTIVE MEMO: While developing this piece, I went back and forth between many topics before I realized that by choosing a specific topic, like one that affects a college campus, I could really advocate for change instead of just a change of perspective .Composting is a great thing to implement for many reasons, and once I made the decision to write about this topic, I was able to throw myself into it . Dear President Armstrong,We can do better than "when in doubt recycle."We can do better than 90% in 2016 and 86% in 2017 waste diversion based on facilities rather than campus population. We can do better than letting our compost be contaminated. We are Cal Poly, and I think we can do better. As of 2019, we have one year left until the CSU-wide 2020 Sustainability Policies are supposed to be met, but Zero Waste cannot stop there.I think that in order for our campus to remain on a sustainable track, waste facilities, with the presidential push, need to place compost bins in every residence hall on campus alongside trash cans and recycle bins.
