Space Education in Primary School: Analysis of Learning Resources and Development of Worksheets for the Kosmix Series
Abstract
This thesis focuses on the development and evaluation of a set of worksheets and accompanying methodological materials for five episodes of the educational series Kosmix, designed for pupils in the 1st-3rd grades of primary school. The work is based on the finding that commonly available resources on space topics often contain factual inaccuracies, misleading visual representations, and insufficient attention to typical pupil misconceptions. The aim of the thesis is to create age-appropriate, visually didactic, and scientifically accurate materials and to assess their impact on pupils 'understanding of basic astronomical phenomena. The theoretical part outlines the curricular context of the topic and summarises didactic approaches to working with audiovisual materials, models, and simple experiments in primary science education. Based on these principles, worksheets were designed in two levels of difficulty (1st grade; 2nd-3rd grade) using the evocation-realisation-reflection structure and targeting common misconceptions (e.g., the colour of the Sun, causes of lunar phases, confusion of forces). The practical part is realised through an action research cycle. Triangulation of data (structured observation, pupil outputs, short interviews) demonstrates that the materials significantly support...
