The Wild Boar as a Topic for Teaching Vertebrate Zoology and Ethology
Abstract
The aim of this thesis was, through the use of a questionnaire survey, a special teaching unit, and an excursion, to find out what knowledge students of the 2nd level, specifically the 8th grade of Třemošnice Elementary School, have about the wild boar. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the wild boar, covering its history, domestication, appearance, diet, lifestyle, hunting, typical diseases, and its ethology. Firstly, textbooks were examined to assess whether the amount of information about the wild boar in these textbooks is adequate. The following chapters present the methodological procedures, classification of information, and evaluation, which is recorded in graphs. The first questionnaire survey took place before the teaching unit on the given topic and the excursion to the game reserve. A second questionnaire survey with the same questions followed after the mentioned teaching unit and excursion in order to compare the answers and map the progress in knowledge. It was found that the students had varying knowledge on specific questions, and they learned a lot of information and supplemented their knowledge only after a special teaching session.
