Eyes for the Dark
Abstract
Reflective Memo: Shame on me.Shame on me for not liking Friends, Parks and Rec, The Office, and sitcoms in general.Shame on me for always choosing Westworld or Sharp Objects over a comedy.Despite the opposition, I am more than proud to share my appreciation for the dark arts.I've learned the most about myself through witnessing the evil shades of human nature. The strangest and most rewarding effect is self-validation.Discomfort and pleasure become less foreign. My heart skips a step, not because of all the low-budget jump scares, but because I genuinely can't believe how people treat each other. And I love it.I cannot explain how refreshing and exhilarating it is to feel vulnerable. After years of exploring fright walks, horror movies, and plays, I wanted to just double-check that I wasn't a psychopath.Research and discussion allowed me to understand more about the genre of horror and its range of responses.
