The influence of the Educational Program Water Quality in the Landscape on the environmental attitudes of Pupils of 8th and 9th Grades of Elementary School in the Ústí nad Labem Region
Abstract
The thesis builds on Jiránková's (2021) bachelor's thesis Educational Program for Pupils of 8th and 9th Grades of Elementary School with the Possibility of a Laboratory Case EcoLabBox. The main goal was to assess the impact of the mentioned educational program on students' environmental attitudes at the ISCED 2 level. To achieve this, the author used a modified version of the Two Major Environmental Values (2-MEV) research tool, which enabled the assessment and evaluation of attitudes among 120 respondents from 8th and 9th grade students at selected primary schools in the Ústí nad Labem Region. This region was intentionally chosen due to its long-standing history of environmental disasters, particularly the contamination of rivers with industrial and chemical pollutants, providing a relevant context for environmental education. The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measures, allowing for a comparison of attitudes before and after the program. In addition to the primary goal - evaluating the impact of the intervention - further research questions were explored: whether girls exhibit more pro-environmental attitudes than boys, and what the relationship is between students' pro-environmental attitudes and their subjective enjoyment of the biology...
