No More 7 a.m. Classes
Abstract
REFLECTIVE MEMO: Developing this piece was a two-quarter process for me .My interest in the topic of 7 a .m .classes began during my first quarter at Cal Poly, when i was blocked into a 7 a .m .COMS class .Having personal experience taking a 7 a .m .class and an interest in psychology, I wanted to know the impacts that early classes have on students .I began to do a lot of research on the topic and found studies done on circadian rhythms and early start times in college students .I also met with the registrar to gather data on 7 a .m .classes and looked at Mustang News articles on overcrowding at Cal Poly .I like that it relates to me personally, but also to thousands of other students at Cal Poly, and that it draws attention to the issue of overcrowding and provides am effective solution .Six a.m.My alarm blares violently as I groan and turn over, not believing that I have to wake up for class at this reproachful hour.Forty-five minutes later I am miraculously shuffling my way to class in the dark like a zombie. As I doze off in class, I realize that I only slept for five hours the night before and will be tired for the rest of the day. This saga was my daily routine for all ten weeks of fall quarter because of my 7 a.m.class.
