The Death of Marilyn Monroe
Abstract
On the morning of August 5th, 1962, 36-year-old Marilyn Monroe was found dead from an apparent barbiturate overdose.Though her death was ruled a suicide, conspiracy theorists have argued that Monroe's pervasive knowledge of inside government information, given to her directly by the Kennedy brothers, gave the CIA extensive motivation for murdering her.Due to the disappearance of essential evidence, namely Miss Monroe's red diary, troubles with the police report, the lack of lethal substance in her digestion system, and tapes that showed she was not suicidal at the time of her death, this theory of the CIA murdering Marilyn Monroe is supported.Marilyn Monroe was an iconic model, singer, and actress in the late forties, fifties, and early sixties. She was commonly displayed in her most famous roles as a ditsy blonde, an act she also integrated into her socialite persona.Though Monroe played the part well, she often expressed uncertainty to friends and family about constantly being portrayed this way in the media (Taylor). She was smarter than people gave her credit for and, due to this, many may have possibly underestimated her power.Notably, Monroe had close relations and alleged affairs with President John F. Kennedy, and therefore, according to the conspiracy theorists, was likely entrusted with state secrets.Suspicions arose about the affair in the late 1950s and were bolstered after Monroe sang her infamous "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" song at Kennedy's 45th birthday party in 1962 (Kelly).
