Abstract

The convergence of genomics and precision oncology is fundamentally transforming cancer care, establishing genetic counseling as a critical component of modern oncology nursing. However, a significant disparity exists between the evolution of this advanced practice role and the systematic development of corresponding competencies among nurses. This protocol proposes a scoping review to systematically map and synthesize the global evidence pertaining to the cultivation of genetic counseling competencies in oncology nurses. The review aims to delineate core competency domains, evaluate existing training modalities and curricular content, summarize methods for assessing training efficacy, and identify key barriers and facilitators to implementation. The findings are anticipated to provide a foundational evidence base for establishing standardized competency frameworks, developing targeted educational interventions, and informing supportive healthcare policies, thereby empowering the oncology nursing workforce to meet the demands of the precision medicine era.
