Abstract

This research project aims to adapt and validate the Sustainable Career Scale (SCS; Russo et al., in preparation) for use in Poland. The SCS assesses career sustainability, which encompasses a happy, healthy and productive career in different contexts and moments of life (De Vos, 2020), with a social impact on society by improving well-being and quality of life (Russo et al., in preparation). A sustainable career can be understood as a dynamic construct comprising sequences of career experiences spanning various social contexts, influenced by individual agency and the meanings a person attaches to the life events they experience over time (De Vos & Van der Heijden, 2017; De Vos, Van Der Heijden & Akkermans, 2020). The research project involves the adaptation of the SCS to ensure its cultural and linguistic appropriateness for Polish job incumbents. This adaptation follows the guidelines set by the International Test Committee for test adaptation, including translation, reliability, and validity testing, among others. This aim will be achieved through a series of pilot studies and a primary study involving a large sample of Polish job incumbents from diverse industries and backgrounds. Statistical analyses, including exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, measurement of invariance in different groups, and reliability testing, will be conducted to assess the questionnaire's psychometric properties. Concurrently, concurrent validity will be examined by correlating SCS scores with relevant external criteria, such as work engagement, work meaning and job satisfaction. Furthermore, discriminant validity will be tested by correlating career sustainability with burnout and testing for differences with the construct of decent work. Finally, discriminant validity will be tested for the predictive role of career sustainability on hedonic, eudaimonic and social well-being as well as job performance. Ultimately, the adaptation and validation of the Polish version of the SCS will provide a reliable and culturally appropriate tool for assessing career sustainability in the Polish workforce. This research project contributes to the understanding of career sustainability as a multidimensional construct and its implications for individual well-being and organizational performance in the Polish context.
