Abstract

BrowserOS is a browser-native virtual operating system implemented in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly (WASM). The project provides a Unix-like shell environment with file system abstractions, process models, device drivers, and persistent storage, running entirely inside modern web browsers without plugins or server-side components. This work is intended for operating systems education and systems programming exploration, demonstrating the feasibility of browser-based OS abstractions using WebAssembly.
