Desafíos y oportunidades de las competencias digitales en la educación universitaria del Siglo XXI
Abstract
Digital transformation in higher education has evolved from an option to a strategic necessity in the 21st century. This review article aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities of digital teaching competencies within the current university context. To this end, a documentary and descriptive research was conducted, analyzing a base of 22 scientific references and international regulatory frameworks published between 2022 and 2026, including Latin American case studies. The results highlight that, although international reference frameworks have standardized the necessary skills, structural gaps and educational fragmentation persist, especially in the Latin American region. A disconnect is evident between the technical mastery of digital tools and their reflective pedagogical integration, which limits the transformative potential of ICT. Likewise, opportunities for improvement are identified through innovative continuous training models and pedagogies focused on hybrid learning. It is concluded that the strengthening of technological skills should not be limited to instrumental management but must be integrated through reflective pedagogical approaches and continuous, contextualized training that allows for a more resilient, inclusive, and socially aligned higher education.
