Abstract

Scientific research is essential to strengthen evidence-based professional practice. This study aimed to analyze the level of development of research competencies in radiology professionals in public health services in the municipality of Sucre and to determine the barriers that limit their participation in research processes. A structured questionnaire of 8 questions was applied to 150 radiologists. The results indicate that most of the professionals have a medium level of research skills, with weaknesses in methodological knowledge, problem formulation and management of data collection and analysis techniques. A positive attitude towards research, motivation and willingness to train were observed. The main barriers identified include work overload, lack of training, limited institutional support, and time and resource constraints. These findings show that the effective development of research competencies depends not only on individual motivation, but also on institutional support and continuous training. It is recommended to implement training programs, incentives, mentoring and collaboration with academic institutions to consolidate a research culture and promote the generation of scientific knowledge applied to the area of radiology and public health.
