Två världar, en konflikt : En jämförande studie av Fox News och Xinhua News Agencys rapportering om Israel-Hamas-konflikten efter 7 oktober 2023
Abstract
This study examines how the Israel-Hamas conflict after October 7, 2023 is presented in the news reporting of Fox News and Xinhua News Agency. Based on framing theory and securitization theory, the study conducts a comparative qualitative text analysis of forty news articles. The analysis focuses on how threats, reference objects, and legitimized measures are constructed through linguistic framing. The findings show that Fox News frames the conflict through a threat-oriented security logic in which Hamas is portrayed as a persistent danger, contributing to the normalization of military responses. In contrast, Xinhua emphasizes civilian suffering and humanitarian consequences, framing diplomatic and humanitarian solutions as central. This study demonstrates how framing and securitization interact as gradual processes across media systems shaped by different political contexts. The findings provide insight into how media framing contributes to structuring political interpretations and perceived policy options in international conflict reporting.
