Abstract

Approaching The Flower of My Secret with the perspective offered by time, many years after its completion, allows us to see how this film consolidates a few elements and precesses that will inform Almodóvar´s subsequent films. Among these, those related to intertextuality stand out, and which this film employs in a wide range of ways, from the incorporation of texts from the filmmaker´s own work or others, to the inclusion of references traced to fundamental authors in the history of cinema such as Alfred Hitchcock, and even the annexation of passages from the filmmaker´s own life. This work, based on a textual analysis of the film, examines these variations of intertextuality, from the functions that, with their incorporation, the source text performs to the marked revitalization of the traget text.
