Beyond Age: Smartphone Typing Dynamics as Markers of Digital Dexterity
Abstract
This study investigated whether smartphone typing dynamics can be used to characterize digital dexterity beyond chronological age. Participants completed everyday typing tasks on a smartphone using a custom data-collection application (SMoDS App) while touchscreen interaction data were recorded. Temporal and pressure-related features of typing were analyzed to identify distinct interaction profiles reflecting different levels of fluency and motor control. The study aimed to assess the extent to which digital dexterity is associated with behavioral interaction patterns rather than age alone.
