Abstract

Cape Verde’s current citizenship regime is governed by the 1992 Constitution, as amended in 2010, by the 2023 Nationality Act, as amended in 2024, and by the 2024 Nationality Regulation, approved by Decree-Law No. 29/2024 of 13 June 2024, which however does not yet fully regulate acquisition based on investment. The report provides context to and analysis of the evolution of the legal rules on attribution, acquisition, loss and reacquisition of Cape Verdean citizenship.
