Abstract

Abstract: This Bachelor's Thesis focuses on the design of a Validation and Verification (V&V) environment for the ISNAV navigation system, developed by GMV Aerospace and Defence. ISNAV is a navigation solution for military ground vehicles that combines GNSS data with inertial information, either from an external INS or an internal IMU, to provide robust positioning and timing capabilities. The V&V environment includes both the hardware design of a test bench, intended to be integrated into a 4U rack, and a modular software architecture divided into three components: TestCases, TestBench, and TestSim. TestCases contains Python-based test cases executable with pytest; TestBench manages the simulations and coordinates communication between the other two modules; and TestSim implements C++ simulators that generate the necessary signals for each test, communicating directly with the navigation software. The bench supports multiple communication protocols (RS232, RS422, Ethernet, UART, CAN, and discrete signals) and allows validation of ISNAV’s response to simulated stimuli. While not all simulators have been implemented, the system is designed to support future expansion. A graphical interface has also been integrated to visualize test results. This environment has been developed in a real engineering context, following principles of traceability, scalability, and reusability, and is part of a broader automated testing system for ISNAV.
