Abstract

We aim to investigate how difficulties finding a romantic partner (split into mate value and mate access) are associated with sexism and belief in a sexism shift (i.e., the belief that the target of sexism has shifted from women to men) in adults residing in Finland. We expect that lower mate value and mate access will be positively associated with sexist attitudes and belief in a sexism shift in men. The purpose of the study is to promote individual and societal well-being. We expect that findings may identify psychological risk factors related to violence-supportive beliefs, offer insight into belief in a sexism shift as a modern form of sexism, and inform well-being and prevention efforts. The study may also contribute to validating these constructs and measures in the Finnish context.
