Abstract

How can a sigh tell us something about the subjectivity, even in immateriality? The following text takes the previous question as a starting point to first engage in a ma-terialistic philosophical reflection where the sigh is considered as a sign overflowed by the body. A polyphonic, non-translatable and non-universal sign. This leads us to think: why is there not, in the philosophical tradition, a subjec-tivity that “sighs”? The invention of an “aerial” subjectivity will allow an aperture to the substantial subject as a deconstruction of traditional ontology. Without being necessarily transcendent, this “aerial ontology” allows us to think of an alterity that is re-signified beyond the skin. To achieve this approach, two moments are pro-posed. First, a physiologic reading of the sigh, particularly those built upon Aristo-telian pneumatology. Then, we will think of an aerial ontology supported on Luce Irigaray, who gives us a basis to think of a sighing subjectivity.
