Beneficios de la hormona CCN3 para evitar la descalcificación materna durante la lactancia
Abstract
During lactation, the mother experiences an increased demand for calcium to support milk production, which may compromise bone density and promote demineralization. In this context, the hormone CCN3 emerges as a key regulator, acting as an osteoanabolic factor that protects the maternal skeleton. The present study aimed to determine the benefits of the hormone CCN3 in preventing maternal demineralization during lactation. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol and the PICO methodology in order to analyze the available scientific evidence on the benefits of CCN3 in the prevention of maternal demineralization during lactation. Databases such as Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), and LILACS were consulted, applying inclusion criteria for recent, relevant, and open-access studies, and excluding investigations without a direct relationship to the study objective or without verifiable evidence. After the evaluation of titles, abstracts, and full texts, 21 studies were selected for the final analysis. The results showed that CCN3 plays a key role in preserving maternal bone mass during lactation by promoting the differentiation of stem cells into osteoblasts and stimulating bone formation and remodeling. Furthermore, CCN3 contributes to the maintenance of cartilage integrity and the bone matrix, modulates inflammation, protects mineral density, and facilitates repair after damage or mechanical stress. In addition, its neuroendocrine action was found to increase during lactation, regulating mineral homeostasis and cellular communication, thereby consolidating CCN3 as an essential osteoanabolic factor for the prevention of maternal demineralization.
