La Auditoría Clínica en la mejora de la calidad de la atención de salud en el Servicio de Pediatría
Abstract
Introduction: Improving the quality of healthcare depends on an integrated quality management system, which is refined through the application of Clinical Audit. This structured methodological tool requires a new conceptual approach to achieve sustainable improvements in the quality of care for hospitalized pediatric patients. Objective: To analyze the application of clinical audit in improving the quality of healthcare for hospitalized patients in the pediatric service. Method: A literature systematization was performed, using theoretical methods of analysis and synthesis, historical-logical, and inductive-deductive approaches to examine relevant academic, regulatory, and institutional information on clinical audit in pediatrics. Recognized scientific databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, SciELO, and Web of Science were consulted. Results: Gaps in the application of Clinical Audit were identified. However, the literature recognizes it as the most appropriate methodological tool for developing a continuous improvement strategy for healthcare quality in the pediatric specialty. Given the vulnerability and particular characteristics of the child patient, this tool becomes even more significant by enabling safe, effective care that respects both development and the family environment. Conclusions: The new conception of clinical audit emphasizes the importance of its cyclical and systemic application, adapted to the context, with clinical leadership and consideration of the opinions of parents or guardians, to achieve sustainability in improving healthcare services for pediatric patients.
