ACT Group Intervention for Adolescents with Epilepsy Pilot
Abstract
Adolescents with epilepsy (AwE) are more vulnerable to mental health difficulties such as low mood, anxiety, and social isolation than their peers, yet these are underdiagnosed and undertreated. This project aims to address this gap by developing a tailored psychosocial group intervention for AwE. The group will use the DNA-V model, which integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, positive psychology, and behavioural science principles with the aim to improve psychological flexibility and promote resilience. The intervention will be co-produced with AwE to ensure it is acceptable and relevant to lived experience. The project will consist of creating a remote DNA-V group intervention including session plans, a manual for delivery, and session content consisting of PowerPoints, videos, a digital workbook, and supplementary information sheets. The group will be piloted and use pre-, post-, and weekly measures, as well as qualitative feedback, to assess feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy.
