Analysis of kinematic parameters and their influence on pole vault performance in elite level jumpers
Abstract
Title: Analysis of kinematic parameters and their influence on pole vault performance in elite-level jumpers Objectives: The thesis aims to analyse biomechanical parameters for pole vault and determine their significance for performance and the relationships between them. Furthermore, to create a prediction model for performance. Methods: The research group consisted of elite world pole vaulters, whose biomechanical data were obtained from official World Athletics reports from top competitions. To identify key determinants of performance, Pearson correlation analysis was performed, examining the relationships between kinematic parameters of run-up, takeoff and pole work. Subsequently, multiple linear regression analysis was used to create a performance prediction model. Results: The analysis confirmed that the primary determinant of performance is the speed at takeoff (Takeoff_velocity) and the ability to maintain momentum from the last step of the run. The biomechanical advantage of the so-called free takeoff was demonstrated, where a larger horizontal distance of the takeoff point (Takeoff_distance) positively correlates with a shorter contact time and more efficient energy transfer, in contrast to a technically incorrect underrun. The resulting regression model, based on a combination of speed...
