Abstract

The objective of the measurement was to obtain radiographic data from a painting on canvas and to reveal details of the underpainting, the existence of which was evident from a visual inspection of the work. The dimensions of the painting are at the upper limit of the mounting capacities for scanning in the TORATOM tomograph. The scanning was performed sequentially in 'tiles,' which were subsequently stitched into the final radiogram. Due to the dimensions, it was not possible to obtain a radiogram of the entire painting - the peripheral parts were not captured. The resulting data are significant for visualizing the underpainting and for planning the restoration work on the painting.
