Abstract

Vision is one of the most precious gifts, enabling humans to perceive and navigate the world. However, approximately 2.2 billion people globally suffer from vision impairment according to WHO. This paper presents an enhanced assistive device called "Third Eye for Blind" that utilizes ESP32 microcontroller, ultrasonic sensors, and GPS module to help visually impaired individuals navigate independently and safely. Unlike the traditional Arduino-based system, this implementation leverages ESP32's advanced capabilities including Wi-Fi connectivity, better processing power, and built-in Bluetooth for enhanced functionality. The device detects obstacles using ultrasonic waves and provides real-time feedback through buzzer alerts and vibration motors. Additionally, the GPS module enables location tracking and emergency assistance. The system is designed as a wearable device that can be attached to the body as a band or integrated into clothing, making it portable, affordable, and user-friendly. With a cost under $25, this innovation aims to improve the quality of life for visually impaired individuals by providing them with greater mobility, independence, and confidence.
