STAČILO! and KSČM: Comparative analysis of two left-wing political entities in the Czech Republic
Abstract
In response to long-term declining results culminating in failure in the 2021 parliamentary elections, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, together with other left-wing entities, initiated the formation of the STAČILO! coalition. In 2024, the STAČILO! coalition transformed into an independent movement. This bachelor's thesis aims to determine whether the KSČM party and the STAČILO! movement fall into the same party typology or whether they have already distanced themselves from each other. The results of the thesis are based on a qualitative content analysis of the classic typology of party families and Gideon Rahat's organizational typology of parties. The thesis analyzes party, expert, and media sources to achieve an objective assessment of the development of the KSČM and STAČILO!. Research into the classical typology of party families confirmed the genetic and ideological similarity and classifies both entities as communist parties. On the contrary, the analysis of organizational typology revealed different features of both groups. While the KSČM functions as a collegial party, the STAČILO! movement exhibits leadership and personal characteristics typical of personalized parties.
