From mental retardation to intellectual developmental disorder: A discoursive analysis of a critical change in classification
Abstract
This thesis examines the social dimensions of the redefined medical conceptualization of cognitive disability in the International Classification of Diseases. The transition from ICD-10 to ICD-11 marks a crucial shift in how cognitive disability is defined, carrying major implications for social work practice. Ultimately, it seeks to clarify the potential effects of these changes on social work and other helping professions.
