Management of care for chronically ill children in schools in selected city district of Prague
Abstract
This master's thesis focuses on the management of care for chronically ill children within the context of primary schools in the Czech Republic. Since 2022, legislation has allowed the provision of healthcare services directly in schools, transforming the school into a specific social environment for the patient. The aim of the thesis is to analyze how care is practically provided to students with chronic illnesses at selected schools in a chosen district of Prague and to identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency of care management. The theoretical framework of the thesis includes the legislative context, international approaches to supporting chronically ill students, and, in particular, Joan Tronto's five phases of care. Empirically, the study is conducted as a qualitative content analysis of semi-structured interviews with relevant stakeholders who were directly involved in the care of chronically ill students at the time of data collection. The thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of current practices in school-based care for chronically ill children, offers suggestions for systematically improving support for students with chronic conditions, provides recommendations for school practice, and stimulates further discussion in the field.
