Diving and the quality of life of persons with spinal cord injury
Abstract
Author: Bc. Karolína Žejdlíková Title: Diving and the quality of life of persons with spinal cord injury Objective: Comprehensive assessment of the impact of diving on changes in subjectively perceived quality of life (QoL) in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods: The research used a quantitative design with paired QoL measurements before and after the intervention. The research sample (N = 15) was obtained using a purposive sampling method and consisted of people with physical disabilities who are actively involved in diving. The measurement was performed using the SQUALA CZ questionnaire, which contains 23 areas of QoL assessed on a five-point nominal scale in two categories (Degree of Importance and Degree of Satisfaction). A mixed method of administration (paper and online) was used. The data were converted to numerical values, and gross, partial, and final total scores were calculated. Wilcoxon's test for paired measurements was used to test the hypothesis (H1). Results: Hypothesis H1, assuming a statistically significant increase in QoL, was not confirmed (p = 0.083). Nevertheless, an average increase in the total QoL score of 3 scores was found, indicating a strong positive trend in the highly compensated population. Domain analysis revealed conflicting compensation trends. The...
