Abstract
Title: The effect of strength training on metabolic compensation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review Aims: The aim of this thesis was to describe the effect of strength training on metabolic compensation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially on HbA1c levels. Methods: This thesis is a systematic review study. In accordance with PRISMA recommendations, specialized clinical studies and randomized controlled trials were systematically searched for using selected keywords and appropriate application filters. The search was conducted in the Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science citation and bibliographic databases. A total of 8 studies meeting the specified criteria were included in this review study. The selected studies were also compiled into a single table for clarity. Results: Strength training has a beneficial effect on metabolic compensation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In most of the studies included, strength training led to a clinically significant decrease in HbA1c levels, with the decrease ranging from 0.3 to 0.8%. The effectiveness of strength training is comparable to, and in some cases even higher than, that of aerobic training. Strength training can therefore be considered a valuable and important part of the non-pharmacological...
