Methods of Developing Proprioception with a Focus on Grappling Sports
Abstract
This bachelor thesis focuses on the development of proprioception, specifically on methods for its enhancement and their application in the training of grappling sports such as judo, wrestling, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Proprioception is a component of motor control that plays a crucial role in maintaining balance, movement precision, and injury prevention, all of which are particularly important in the context of grappling sports. The aim of this thesis was to identify the most suitable proprioceptive training methods for healthy individuals and to evaluate their transferability to the specific training environment of grappling sports. The thesis is based on a narrative review of scholarly literature. The research corpus consisted of scientific studies focused on the methods of improving proprioception, specifically balance and active movement training, while research involving clinical patients was intentionally excluded. The main evaluation criterion was the degree of similarity between the training interventions, and the movement demands typical of grappling sports. The results show that the most suitable methods for developing proprioception are progressive balance exercises, often performed on unstable surfaces or in pairs. For optimal effectiveness, it is recommended to incorporate these...
